Not all E-numbers (the European indication for additives) were born equal. Some are worse than others. Below is a list of some top additives to avoid due to their various effects. Google up any of them and you’ll find mountains of information.
How do you know if these additives feature in your food? Keep a small print out of this list in your wallet and, when shopping, read the small print of the ingredients list.
- All artificial colourings (E102, E104, E110, E127, E128, E129, E131, E132, E133, E142, E151, E154)
- Preservatives: sodium benzoate (E211), sulfites (E220, E222, E223, E228), sodium nitrite (E250, E251)
- Flavour enhancer: monosodium glutamate (E621) (if known sensitivity)
- Artificial sweeteners: saccharin (E954), aspartame (E951), acesulfame K (E950)
